And yet another energetic Cover Band rules the Jersey scene. From Old-School rap to NuMetal, All She Wrote is "all you need" for a rockin' night out. Don't forget your dancing shoes!
You guys are an all guy band so why the name "All She Wrote"?
It was the name we all agreed upon. It was the ONLY name we agreed upon.
Mike: I just want you guys to know I suggested Busted Sausage... but they all knocked it down.
But where'd it come from?
Caddy Shack! No, it was just a phrase that we all thought was catchy. It just came down to the process of elimination.
How do you guys try to be different from the other bands on the scene?
We try to play music that not everybody plays. We take them and make them our own. Other bands are playing the same songs we are. So we try to switch it up and then people take notice. A good variety is key too. We throw in some older tunes that are cool that people remember from back in the day...
You are fairly new to the cover scene. How much time and effort did it take to break into the scene now?
We came in fairly quickly. We came together fairly quickly. We were all on the same page as far as the direction of the band and what each of our goals was. So once all five of us got together and started jammin', we realized we all have a lot in common and that helps to get everybody together in this thing.
When is the best time to perform?
We love the summer time. And we love being down the shore. There's nothing wrong with the places up North, they're great. But we love being at the Jersey shore in the summer time. People are way more outgoing. Inhibitions get lost quickly. Everybody is letting loose for the summer Everybody who is out in the summer is out to have a great time. But the weekends are the best times to play of course too.
How do you feel about the people out there who hate cover bands?
People out there really think all original tunes should be out there only. Ever come across any hating incidents at a show?
Erich: I used to be a cover band hater. Really. But then I got together with these guys and they changed me as a musician. If you play well... then it doesn't matter what you play... if it's good (laughs)!
Every band has some kind of drama. Some kind of conflict. Look at the old Guns N'Roses. What dirt do you have on yourselves?
(All Laugh). We've had a few moments but it has always been musically not personally. And that's good. We're pretty much all on the same page. Every band is gonna have disagreements musically. And that transpires on stage. But none of us have problems with each other. And when there are personal problems that's when things get really bad. So with us, other than our lead singers pants... (laughs) we have no real problems, (laughs).
What was the most memorable show incident?
Two great things. We do a medley of eighties stuff and it's great to watch people's reaction because we play things that aren't really mainstream. It's kind of different. Another great thing is that I like listening to Eric Stewart play. Listening to him is always great because he always comes up with something interesting
How do you guys cope with the lifestyle of playing all night after working all day?
Darren: Ohhhhh! No Dose! Dunkin Donuts coffee! People at work ask how we do it. And i'd tell you the truth, if it wasn't for the people in the band... no shit-I'll go to a show and I so look forward to seeing these guys. I know that every show is going to be dead on and it's so worth it. And having a daytime job is discipline. You go everyday, you're there on time, and this thing is like a second job. Its pay just like everything else.
Which bands do you like covering the most?
Velvet Revolver, VanHalen, Stone Temple Pilots. These three bands are all so different, but that shows you how much what each of us likes is put into this.
What are the more crazy things that have happened at a show you'll never forget?
Ahhh. (laughs) Maybe a few girls flashing us. The grocery shopping, (laughs) The dance moves. We played the Borgata this summer and we were specifically told not to have anyone up on stage with us. Three songs into it, a girl is on stage. The bouncers are going crazy. The managers are crazy. And she didn't want to get off the stage. And then her boyfriend comes up. Yelling at us- "You told her to come up. Now you're telling her not to come up". We thought it was going to be lights out for us. But they invited us back. It was just a pretty tense moment.
Any upcoming shows you wanna get people out for this fall?
Borgata again. Ocean City, Maryland. We're doing the Bud Lake Wet Down. Poor Billys. The Wreck Room. The Vanderbilt. Great shows are coming!
